March 19, 2012 – 7PM at Sharky’s

The Meeting is Called to Order By Brad Johnson at 7:03PM
Board Members Present:Brad Johnson, Stephanie Wade, Sarah Ellis
Board Members Absent:Phil Allinger, Lany Burnett

Purpose of the Meeting: Discuss chapter activities for the previous and upcoming month.
Chapter Discussion
1. Call to Order
2. Brief introduction of members present
3. Approval of Agenda
4. Full introduction of any special guests (none anticipated) or other chapter/state participants
5. Founder/President's Report (Brad Johnson)
a. Meeting location reports - Up for vote
i. Sharky’s
ii. Tia Helitas - no report
iii. All Star - no report
iv. Firkin and Fox - charge $150 per night
b. Provisional Charter
c. Website updates - Samantha Thompson will help Brad with website updates
d. Need for separate board meetings to start developing chapter by-laws- Board Meetings will be held the 2nd Monday of the Month at 7:30 PM
*Update: After the meeting the board members decided to hold board meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM
e. Memorial Day race concession stand - vote to spend chapter funds to buy concessions
i. The Race will be held at 7AM on Monday May 28.
ii. Runners will be given water, cookies and fruit for free.
iii. Race is run by the City of Burton. Proceeds will be donated to Pack the Truck.
iv. Between 500 and 800 runners are expected.
v. We will sell Gatorade, Muffins (prepackaged), and coffee at the concession stand. Jodi Dinnan will call Gordon’s to get prices on food items. We will need a large coffee pot. Jodi thinks her parents may have one we can use. If not, we will see if another chapter has one we can borrow.
f. Burton Tri-zip-athon idea - Race series?
. Chapter in favor of planning this for next fall (2013).
g. Upcoming State/National Events
. Jaycees State Convention (May 4-6, 2012 @5:00PM in Boyne Falls, MI)
6. Membership Vice President's Report (Stephanie Wade)
. Provisional Charter has been applied for
a. Current Membership Numbers - we have 15 members
b. Call for dues
c. Call for new members. Challenge from Frankenmuth Chapter to get 20 members by March 31. Once we reach 20, they will give us $500.
d. New member welcome.
e. Sign up for State Convention in Boyne.
. Need to Register for hotel by April 3.
i. Must register for convention by March 31 to get early bird rate.

iii. Contact Brad or Stephanie if you plan on attending so lodging arrangements can be made.
f. Upcoming Events:
. Wine Tasting (Date TBD @ Time TBD at Wolcott's Winery)
i. New Member Orientation (April 16, 2012 at 6PM at Sharky’s). Mayor Paula Zelenko will be at this meeting. Please be on time!
ii. Ideas for other membership events in the short term?
Happy Hour at local bar, community event, BBQ at park, volleyball at park, something outside to take advantage of warm weather
7. Management Vice President / Treasurer's Report (Lany Burnett)
a. Frankenmuth to temporarily handle chapter funds
i. We cannot get our own account until we have full charter
b. Burton Chamber of Commerce proposal to receive chapter start-up funds
. We need to write a proposal stating what we will use the money for
i. We should also be able to get a donation from Burton Rotary
c. Upcoming Events
. Frankenmuth World Expo of Beer (May 18 & May 19)
1. MUST REGISTER ONLINE at www.worldexpoofbeer.com
2. Must indicate that you are with the Burton Area Jaycees.
3. If a friend or family member is volunteering with you, make sure they put in the comment section that they are with the Burton Area Jaycees.
4. If you signed up already and did not designate our chapter, e-mail melrau@yahoo.com and let her know.
5. We will organize a carpool for this event.
i. Bowling fundraiser update (S. Ellis) - will start planning now that we have access to a bank account. Committee = Brad and Stephanie.
ii. Car Show Update (P. Allinger) - No update due to Phil’s absence
iii. Vegas night update (B. Johnson) - we’re not eligible for this for 3 or 4 years
iv. 80’s Prom Night Update (J. Durish) - will start planning
v. Other fundraising ideas?
8. Individual Development / Community Vice President's Report (Phillip Allinger)
. Upcoming Events
. Resume Writing and Interviewing Skills Workshop Update - POSTPONED
i. Easter Egg Hunt (March 31 at 12PM at Van Y) - Across from Meijer on Center Rd, will help set-up and clean up and supervise event
ii. Burton 5K Memorial Run & Walk (May 28 @ 7:30AM at Atherton High School)
iii. Ideas for other individual development / community events? Park clean up, highway cleanup, land bank, Paint for Pride, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics.

10. Sign up sheets for future events/fundraisers
. Memorial Day Race
a. World Expo of Beer - Must sign up online.
